Getting Ready for a Pet Sitter Before You Travel
Before you leave for a trip, your pet sitter needs the details you follow without thinking about them: where the food is, how much to give, when medication is due and who to call if you cannot be reached. I provide vacation pet care in Charlottetown, Stratford and Cornwall, and this is what I ask owners to have ready before the first visit.
Start with a meet and greet
Before any first booking, I arrange a complimentary visit at your home. It gives me a chance to meet your pet, learn their routine and talk through access to the house. We also cover emergency contacts and your veterinarian's information. If you want the full rundown, read what happens at a pet sitter meet and greet.
Write down the routine
Leave feeding amounts and times, walking or litter-box routines, medication instructions and anything your pet finds difficult. Show me where supplies are kept and explain any parts of your home access that might be easy to miss. Please also tell me how you want to receive photo updates while you are away.
Walk me through a normal day, including the parts that are easy to forget because you do them automatically. Which door do you use for walks? Where does your cat usually go when someone new arrives? If there is a gate, lock or alarm involved in entering the house, we can check that together at the meet and greet. Clear instructions help me follow your pet's routine while you are gone.
If someone else will enter the house while you are away, please tell me who they are and when to expect them.
For a cat visit, I cover feeding, fresh water, litter-box cleaning and play or attention. For overnight care, your pet stays in their own home. The visit options and rates are on my Services and Rates page, so you can choose the kind of care you need before sending your request.
Confirm dates and payment before you leave
Send your travel dates early enough for us to meet and confirm availability. For overnight or vacation care of three nights or more, a 50% deposit reserves the dates and goes toward the total. Please give at least seven days' notice if you need to cancel overnight or vacation care. The current cancellation terms are listed with the rates.
Before you travel, check that I have the best number to reach you and the name and number of someone nearby who can answer if you cannot. If your return time changes, please let me know so we can confirm the care your pet needs until you are home. We can also settle how you want photo updates sent after each visit.
If your trip involves dog or cat care at home in Charlottetown, Stratford or Cornwall, request pet care with your dates and your pet's routine. I will reply to arrange the meet and greet before we confirm the booking.
