Overnight Pet Sitting or Boarding: Which Fits Your Pet?

If you are going away overnight, the first question is where your pet will be most comfortable. With boarding, your pet stays away from home with another provider. With my overnight pet sitting, your pet stays in their own home and I care for them there. I offer this service in Charlottetown, Stratford and Cornwall.

When does care at home make sense?

Your pet keeps their usual sleeping place, food and home routine. You also do not have to pack them up for a trip to a boarding facility. This can be especially useful when a pet is more comfortable in familiar surroundings or when you have more than one pet at home. Tell me how they usually spend an evening and what they need overnight, so we can discuss whether this service fits.

Boarding may be a good fit for a pet that already knows and enjoys a particular facility. Ask that provider who will be with your pet overnight, how exercise works and what happens if your pet needs medication. I can answer the same questions about my in-home care, so you have something useful to compare.

What should you compare before deciding?

Think about how your pet handles a change in place and caregiver. If they have boarded before, did they settle in well? If they have stayed at home while you travelled, which parts of their routine took the most planning? Those are worth talking through at the meet and greet. You know your pet's habits better than anyone, and that context helps me explain what an overnight stay at home would involve.

For in-home sitting, I would ask about meals, walks or litter-box care, medication, where your pet sleeps and how I will get into the house. I also need your veterinarian's details and another emergency contact. We cover these at the complimentary meet and greet before confirming a first booking. It is a chance for you to meet the person who will be in your home and to ask anything you need to know.

What does overnight care cost?

My current rates are $80 for one night, $220 for three nights and $500 for seven nights. An additional dog is $10 per night. A $10 per day surcharge applies on statutory holidays. If you live outside Charlottetown, Stratford or Cornwall, I will tell you about any travel charge before you book. The Services and Rates page has the current prices and terms.

Before the first booking, we arrange a complimentary meet and greet at your home. For overnight or vacation care of three nights or more, a 50% deposit reserves the dates and goes toward the total. The remaining balance is due before care begins. If you are planning a trip, request pet care with your dates and your pet's routine, and I will reply about availability.

Please also check the cancellation terms before you settle your travel plans. Overnight and vacation care need at least seven days' notice to cancel; with less notice, the charge is 50% of the booking total. If you are comparing boarding quotes, check what each price covers and when payment is due there too, so you are comparing the care you would actually book.
