How Long Should a Dog Walk Be?

The right length for a dog walk depends on your dog's usual routine. A young dog with plenty of energy may enjoy more time outside, while an older dog might prefer a shorter visit at an easy pace. If you are booking a dog walker in Charlottetown, Stratford or Cornwall, tell me what your dog is used to and how they do on a typical walk.

The walk options

I offer 30-minute walks for $22, 45-minute walks for $28 and 60-minute walks for $35. Each is a neighbourhood walk at your dog's pace. There is a $5 charge for each additional dog on a walk. You can see the current details on my Services and Rates page.

A 30-minute walk can fit a dog who needs a break and some time outside during your workday. If your dog usually takes longer to settle into a walk or enjoys more time to sniff around, 45 or 60 minutes may suit them better. I ask about that routine before we book.

If you are unsure which length to request, tell me what your dog normally does when you take them out. Some want to stop and sniff; others are ready to keep moving.

A midday walk may be a short break or your dog's main outing, depending on what else their day includes. If your dog has already been out in the morning, a shorter visit later may be what you are looking for. If this is their main outing while you are away, you may want to ask about 45 or 60 minutes. A longer booking does not mean your dog has to cover more ground, especially if they like taking their time.

What should you tell me about your dog?

Let me know their usual walking schedule, how they behave on a leash and anything they find difficult on a route. It also helps to know whether they should avoid other dogs, whether they have any physical limits and where you keep their walking gear. We can talk through this at the complimentary meet and greet before the first booking.

You can show me where you usually take your dog and point out any spots they tend to pull toward or avoid. Tell me what you do if they stop, get excited or want to head home. Those small details help me keep the walk familiar, even though I am a new person holding the leash. If your dog has a coat, harness or other gear you want used, show me how it fits before the first walk.

If you want a longer outing, I also offer hiking adventures and seasonal beach walks. Those are separate services with pickup, travel and drop-off included, so tell me which kind of outing you have in mind when you get in touch.

Please give at least 24 hours' notice to cancel a regular walk. With less notice, the charge is 50% of the walk. If you want walks on set days each week, include that schedule in your request.
