Cat Sitting at Home: What Happens During a Visit?

When you travel, your cat can stay at home with their familiar feeding spot, litter box and places to sleep. I provide cat sitting visits in Charlottetown, Stratford and Cornwall.

Staying home also means I need to learn the little things you already know about your cat. Where do they spend most of the day? Do they eat as soon as the bowl goes down, or come back later? What should I do if they keep their distance? We can go through those details before your trip, so the visits follow the routine your cat is used to.

What happens during a cat visit?

A 30-minute visit covers food, fresh water, litter-box cleaning and time for play or attention. I send a photo update too. Some cats come over for company right away; others would rather watch from their usual hiding place. Tell me what is normal for yours, so I can follow their routine rather than push for interaction they do not want.

At the meet and greet, show me where the food, litter supplies and cleaning items are kept. If your cat has a favourite toy or a spot where they usually sit, point that out as well. Tell me if hiding from someone new is normal for them, and whether there is anything specific you want me to watch for.

For one 30-minute cat visit, the current rate is $20, or $40 for two visits in one day. An additional cat is $5 per visit. For a seven-day trip, the current packages are $135 for one visit per day or $245 for two visits per day. The full list is on my Services and Rates page.

Should you book one visit or two each day?

Your cat's usual schedule is a good place to start when choosing visits. If feeding, medication or another part of their care needs attention at two different times, tell me that when you request care. We can discuss the visit plan at the complimentary meet and greet before anything is booked.

For example, a cat who eats once a day may have a different visit schedule from one whose meals or medication are spread across the day. If you have two cats, let me know whether they eat together or need separate food and spaces. Those details help us choose one or two visits per day.

I can handle basic medication administration as part of a scheduled visit. If the medication needs extra time or more complex care, we will discuss the arrangements and any additional cost before booking. Please share the instructions and schedule in advance.

Before you leave, have the food, litter supplies, medication instructions, veterinarian's information and an emergency contact ready. If you are still sorting out travel dates, send the dates you expect and let me know when they are confirmed. If you are looking for vacation cat care on PEI, request pet care with your dates, community and your cat's routine.
